An event held at Penwortham Girls High School, South Ribble, attracted teams from all over Preston and South Ribble with hundreds of players participating throughout the weekend.
Lancashire FA nominated Penwortham Town to receive support from McDonalds through Nigel Dunnington who operates the Franchise for a number of restaurants in the Preston area.
As part of the support from McDonalds the club had a special guest appearance from Sir Geoff Hurst, World Cup winner in 1966, as well as the Community Shield being on display for children to have their picture with. McDonalds also provided a range of skills stations which players could use to hone their football skills.
Lancashire FA Senior Football Development Officer, Roger De Nobrega was full of praise for the festival. Along with Iain Kay, Education FDO they attended the festival and were impressed by what went on.
“The festival was excellently run and we were so pleased that we could offer our support to Penwortham Town who do a fantastic job and promote the ethos of Charter Standard within their club. This is testament that the Charter Standard Scheme is a driver towards development for any club.”
Paul Casey, Committee Member from Penwortham Town commented,
“Sir Geoff Hurst was always in demand. He demonstrated great patience with the endless requests for photographs and his autograph. The presentation he made to our retiring Club Secretary, Jim Dempsey, meant so much to Jim and the club that I can not find words to describe our gratitude.”
As another benefit the Under 9’s Colts team will be representing the club at the FA/McDonalds National Football Festival in August to be held at the home of football – Wembley!
