Lancashire FA 3-1 Manchester FA

The Association's Under 18 Representative team saw off Manchester FA in Saturday's FA County Youth Cup Second Round tie to secure a trip to Middlesex FA.

Both teams started brightly with a high tempo, and as early as the second minute Nathan Martland raced clear of the Manchester FA defence to slot past the keeper and give Lancashire the lead. A cool and calm finish from Nathan on his first appearance for the County.

After very open and evenly matched beginning, Manchester FA found themselves on level terms after an inswinging corner from the right was headed home.

Manchester FA failed to take advantage of their chances that followed, and it was Lancashire that regained the lead. A defensive clearance fell to the feet Ike Williams on the right. who helped the ball back in the the penalty area and onto the head of Jordan Dix. His initial effort rebounded off the bar, but he pounced to make sure with the follow up (35 mins).

Only a few minutes later, Lancashire extended their lead on the break. Michael Galliers charged forward to find Jamie McKernan on the right. Jamie's pinpoint cross was sublimely finished by Nathan Martland for his second of the game (38 mins).

In the second half, plenty of possession for Lancashire helped create further chances, but poor finishing and several stops from the Manchester keep restricted the lead.

Lancashire FA now progress to face Middlesex FA away in the Third Round, due to be played before 20th December.

Up next, West Riding FA come to The County Ground on Saturday 28th November 2009 in the Northern Counties Youth Competition.
