LFA and Bury FC Launch Deaf Football Initiative

9:31 AM, Friday, 30 July 10. Disability football

Sign Your Club Up as a Deaf Friendly Pledge Club

The National Deaf Children’s society has been working with Lancashire FA and Bury Football Club to develop a Deaf friendly football team within the County. The team, who will initially represent the Lancashire region as a deaf only team, will be based centrally in the Leyland area.

The initiative will look to provide all deaf or partially deaf players with increased local opportunities to participate in football, as well linking into activities that you may already be offering as a club (mainstream or disability).

Information documents to the right of the page include a sample copy of the Deaf Friendly FC pledge. You can also visit the Deaf Friendly FC website page.

Should your club be interested in taking the opportunity forward, please contact Mike Nadal on 01772 624000 to get signed up.

There are many benefits to the programme, including:

  • Places on the Coaching Deaf Footballers Course which is produced in partnership with the FA
  • Club resources including Coaching Deaf footballers DVD
  • Club details on the Deaf Friendly FC Club database through their website
  • Opportunities for the club to access NDCS volunteers including communicators
  • Help and support on any Deaf Friendly activities your club may organise
  • Links to possible organisations and partnerships to local deaf organisations and clubs including Bury FC
  • National Officer Support from the National Deaf Children Society FDO

Please be clear that we are not looking for clubs to provide a Deaf only team, simply linking players into existing opportunities at your club.

As part of the above offer Lancashire FA are hosting a FREE Coaching Deaf Footballers course (details to the right) at the County FA’s headquarters on Sunday 22nd August 2010 (10am- 4pm).

For more information contact National Deaf Children Society Football Development Officer on football@ndcs.org.uk . However, there is a requirement for your club to work towards signing up to the above pledge.

Should you require further background information on the initiative, contact Mike Nadal.
