Congratulations to Hallmark Security Premier Division side Ashton Athletic, who are through to the Partners Foundation Challenge Trophy final after beating Chorley of the Conference North 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 draw.

Before last night, the Magpies had remained unbeaten in the competition since the 2013/14 final, which they lost to AFC Fylde. They then went on to lift the Trophy in 2014/15 and 2015/16.

In contrast, it is the first time in their history that Ashton have reached this stage of the competition. To beat Chorley, who sit three leagues above them, is no mean feat.
