Blackburn Rovers 2-0 Burnley FC

2019 Senior Cup Final

Blackburn Rovers secured the 2019 Lancashire FA Senior Cup trophy thanks to a 2-0 win over bitter rivals Burnley FC at the County Ground.

The two goals came late in the second half, courtesy of Hayden Carter on 72 minutes and Jack Vale five minutes from time.

It was a frantic opening 20 minutes or so and Burnley had the ball in the back of Andrew Fisher’s net ten minutes into the match. The number ten, Dan Agyei, chipped the ball over the onrushing Fisher, but Agyei wasn’t able to beat Blackburn’s high line and was flagged for offside.

Rovers then tested Aiden Stone in the Burnley goal, with Rankin-Costello shooting from the edge of the area, but his effort was well held by the Burnley ‘keeper.

With the scores goalless at half-time, it was going to take a moment of magic to break the deadlock.

It was the Blackburn right-back, Hayden Carter who was alert to a cross field header following a whipped in free kick, and the number two headed home before any defender in claret and blue could reach him.

Burnley pushed for a late equaliser but were caught sleeping at the back and Blackburn’s number nine Jack Vale was on hand to punish Burnley with an expert finish from 20 yards to give Blackburn the crown and the bragging rights in East Lancashire until the next time.
