Walshaw Sports Club JFC 4-1 Southport JFC
Walshaw Sports Club Juniors claimed the Lancashire FA U13 Boys County Youth Cup on Sunday morning, with a 4-1 victory over Southport FC Juniors.
It didn’t take long for the goals to start flooding in, as Walshaw scored the opening goal with just four minutes on the clock. The ball fell to Walshaw’s James Thewlis as the onrushing Southport goalkeeper, Daniel Colton, was heading towards him. Despite the pressure, Walshaw’s number 11 curled the ball beautifully around Colton and into an empty net.
Ten minutes later, and Southport equalised, courtesy of a great goal from the impressive Marco Valesi.
The number nine took a shot from distance, which had the goalkeeper rooted to the spot and the ball headed into the bottom left hand corner.
Just five minutes later, Walshaw retook the lead, thanks to Ashkan Koohestani’s well timed effort inside the area.
And Walshaw weren’t done there - they made it 3-1 with 30 minutes on the clock. Tom Yorke-Robinson did really well down the right hand side to place a fantastic cross into Isa Afzal, who headed home, via a nick off the post.
Then, 20 minutes after the half time interval, Walshaw ensured cup ecstasy thanks to Daniel Colton’s effort following a save from the Southport goalkeeper.
