Colne FC Vets become the first-ever champions of the Veterans Cup
This season, we introduced a new County Cup in the form of the Veterans Cup and the response from the community has been fantastic, with a total of 28 teams entering the competition - the level of competition has been exceptional.
After four rounds of intense competition, it was Colne FC Vets and Bamber Bridge Vets who were to face off in the final at the County Ground, and it was billed as an exciting and closely contested match.
And that’s exactly how the match started as both teams tried to get a foothold in the game, it was very even until Colne were awarded a penalty which they scored on the rebound after goalkeeper Dave Rogerson saved the initial shot.
While Bamber Bridge tried to create chances, they didn’t have much luck in the final third, made worse by the Colne’s second goal of the half.
Just minutes into the second half the East Lancashire side found the back of the net again making the scoreline 3-0.
While it could have been easy to write off Bamber Bridge they did manage to get a goal back, however this wasn’t enough and Colne won the match 3-1, making them the first ever champions of the Veterans Cup.
